Joe Troop & Larry Bellorin To Headline Antioch School Fundraiser
Joe Troop & Larry Bellorín were destined to make music together. Larry, a legend of Llanera music, hails from Monagas, Venezuela and Joe, a GRAMMY nominated bluegrass and oldtime musician, is from Durham, North Carolina. Larry was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina and Joe, after a decade in South America, finds himself back in his stomping grounds. During the pandemic Larry has worked construction to make ends meet and Joe s acclaimed latingrass band, Che Apalache, was pushed into hiatus.
Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, both musicians are versatile multi instrumentalists and singer songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they are offering as our entertainment for this year s Gala will come after their multi day residency with Antioch School students, where youth will be introduced to the culture and music of both traditions.
The gala will include both silent and live auctions, gourmet hors d’oeuvres from Current Cuisine, open wine bar, and dessert. Live auction items include unique travel experiences and signature art pieces. The silent auction features overnight getaways, fine dining at area restaurants, tickets to theatrical and cultural events, fine art and jewelry from local artisans, and health and wellness sessions.
Cash Donations The Antioch School has not had an Auction Gala since 2018, so the need to support the school has never been greater. Even if you are unable to attend, your financial gift will mean a great deal to the operations of the school. We are relying on your generosity to meet the full financial need of all our families.
The Antioch School is the oldest democratic school in the country and an essential Yellow Springs institution. The Gala is the school’s largest fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the scholarship fund. Helping families with tuition means that we can build a more diverse student body.
