Conference Days
Regularly scheduled Conference Days are listed in the calendar at the back of the school handbook. On these days there is no school for students. Please contact your child's teacher to arrange additional conferences whenever the need arises. (See calendar.)
Weather Related Closings
The Board President, School Manager and one faculty member make the decision whether or not to close. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our only consideration. If school must close, the President will notify WYSO (91.3 FM) and WHIO (1290 AM and 99.1 FM). She will also begin a phone chain so that we can all be personally notified of a closing before school is scheduled to start. We will not necessarily follow public school closings.
Release to Another Caretaker
Let your child's teacher know of plans for your child to leave school with another caretaker. The School will release your child(ren) to a person other than parent(s) only with previous parental notice.
Illness at School
If your child becomes ill at school, the office will make every effort to let you know, while supplying words of comfort and a warm place to rest.
Absent or Tardy?
If your child must be absent or late, please call the office by 9:30 AM so word can be passed to your child's teacher. If parents aren't consistent in this, it becomes difficult for teachers to know when to become concerned about a child's absence. To help assure the safety of all the children (and to reassure your childŐs teacher), please call.
School Parking
Driveway traffic can be busy during drop-off and retrieval times. The left lane is always kept open for traffic. If you need to stand or park, do so along the right hand curb, or diagonally in the grassy parking island located in the center of the circular drive. There is also standing (but no parking) directly in front of the entrance to the building. For safety's sake, during drop-off and retrieval, use the sidewalk or bikepath, and avoid walking in the driveway.
Bicycling
Bicyclists should use the bikepath, not the driveway.
Lost and Found
There is always at least one Lost and Found box located in the hallway. Your child's mitten, jacket or stuffed animal may someday find its way there. Check occasionally to keep the pile(s) manageable.
School Roster
A Parents' Directory and Student Roster will be available by late September.
Billing
Only the parent designated on the contract as financially responsible for tuition will routinely receive billings, health forms and other information sheets for the office files. If any of these items should go to the other (or both) parents, please notify the office.
Timely Tuition Payments
Like many other small, independent schools, The Antioch School operates on a sometimes narrow margin. With school income almost totally from tuition, it is crucial for families to fulfill their contractual responsibilities according to the agreed schedule. We all depend on one another for this. For specific guidelines, see your copy of the Policy Manual. (All fees, registration, overtime charges and tuition agreements are handled by the office.)
